Bromeliads
The beauty & diversity of Bromeliads
The incredible diversity of Bromeliads makes them a captivating group of plants for garden enthusiasts & critters alike. Bromeliads play an essential role in ecosystems, providing habitat for insects, birds & small mammals. They are often marketed as ‘give a frog a home’ & we often often have visitors enjoying their envitonment.
Their uniqueness, ease of care & diverse beauty have contributed to their popularity. Bromeliads come in a wide range of shapes & sizes, whether small & compact, adorned with bright & colourful foliage or stunning vibrant flowers or large impressive rosettes, these remarkable plants never cease to impress.
At Pelicans Landing G C we take great pleasure in sourcing & stocking a comprehensive range of these fabulous plants. Flowering Guzmanias & Vreisas, the ultimate living ‘bunch of flowers’ alternative, Tillandsias / ‘Air’ plants to adorn rocks, wood or an ideal easy care, novelty pot addition, Neoregelia’s vibrant colourful foliage add colour & texture to shaded spaces or enhance brightly lit indoor locales and the dramatic Alcantarea varieties which are striking specimen plants that add a spectacular feature to gardenscapes. When they finally flower, the inflorescence is truly spectacular! Their exquisite exotic beauty is utterly breath taking and a photographer’s dream. Down side … the mother plant will eventually die after flowering, allowing the ‘pups’ their turn to shine.
Our favourite, the stunning Aechmea fasciata with her variegated silver foliage rosette, earning her the acronym, Silver Vase plant, with her truly magnificent long lasting pink flower is an applaud worthy specimen of Mother Natures creations. Observing the evolution of the flower from it’s tiny star shaped beginning within the rosette, to opening into an exotic pink bract which eventually becomes adorned with a series of tiny blue flowers is profoundly rewarding. Gifting one of these beauties when just flowering is sure to give the recipient long lasting joy. They also perform magnificently, in under canopy shade in the garden.
The diversity of Bromeliads are sure to delight the unintiated & are favourites of collectors due to their easy care beauty, diversity & garden enhancing capacity. We look forward to sharing your journey.
Beware the potential for joyous addiction.
